RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh finance minister OP Choudhary on Monday presented a please-all Budget worth Rs 1.65 lakh crore based on the theme GATI – Good Governance- Accelerating Infrastructure, Technology, Industrial Growth, focusing on financial development of state and boost to tourism and infrastructure in Naxal-affected Bastar region.
While the common man benefits from the Budget as the FM proposed to reduce VAT on petrol by Re 1, he announced a hike of 3% in dearness allowance for state govt employees and a creation of a pension fund for employees to ensure long-term financial security for govt employees.
Choudhary said that the govt aims on establishing Bastar as a model for development, by transforming the Naxal-affected areas. “The government vision includes the complete eradication of Naxals, with the creation of 3,200 additional posts for the Bastar Fighters- a specialized police unit established to combat Maoists. Due to the intense operations of the security forces, the Naxal network in Bastar has been severely weakened.
Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary presented the Chhattisgarh Budget 2025-26 today, focusing on economic revival, infrastructure expansion, and social upliftment. With a clear roadmap for urban modernization, rural development, and industrial growth, the budget seeks to transform Chhattisgarh into a self-sustaining and investment-friendly state.
A special emphasis has been placed on Bastar’s development, ensuring that long-neglected regions receive dedicated funds for security, education, and industrial progress. Additionally, the govt has announced major transport projects, digital connectivity initiatives, and women empowerment schemes, setting the stage for sustainable growth across multiple sectors.
Bastar’s Economic and Security Overhaul:
The Bastar region, long plagued by Naxal extremism and underdevelopment, has received Rs 250 crore in the budget, marking a historic push toward economic inclusion. The funds will support infrastructure, education, employment, and public welfare projects to reintegrate the region into the state’s economic mainstream.
Infrastructure Investments to Drive Growth
: A massive allocation of Rs 9,500 crore has been earmarked for public infrastructure, with Rs 2,000 crore dedicated to new road construction. This will enhance last-mile connectivity, facilitate trade, and reduce travel time between major cities and rural regions.The Raipur-Durg metro rail project has also received a push, with Rs 5 crore allocated for feasibility studies. If executed, this could significantly ease congestion and modernize the state’s urban transport network.
Bridging the Digital Divide:
The Chief Minister Mobile Tower Yojana has been launched to expand telecom connectivity in remote villages. Under this scheme, mobile towers will be installed across the state, ensuring better communication access for residents, businesses, and emergency services. Further, Rs 40 crore has been allocated for the modernization of airports, allowing for increased flight operations and improved connectivity with major domestic and international hubs.
Investments in Education, Skill Development and Sports:
State’s first National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will be set up in Raipur, with a Rs 50 crore allocation. This will create opportunities for students interested in the fashion and textile industry, diversifying career options within the state. Sports infrastructure has also received a boost, with Rs 5 crore set aside for the construction of a football stadium and a badminton hall in Jashpur. This move is aimed at encouraging youth participation in sports and athletics.
Empowering Women Through Financial Independence:
The Lakhpati Didi Yojana has been given a fresh impetus, with a target to empower 8 lakh women entrepreneurs through business training, financial aid, and skill-building programs. This is a step toward making women self-reliant and increasing female participation in economic activities. Meanwhile, Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated for health security initiatives, ensuring access to quality healthcare services for all citizens.
